What We Do

Ashford ICA meet on the first Tuesday of each month in Ashford School.
There is a business part of each meeting, when members hear about upcoming events and
are brought up to date on what has been going on both in the guild
and at federation (county) level and nationally within the organisation.
Each month we have a visiting speaker or demonstrator on a wide range of topics.
Each month our birthday girl drawn from members with a birthday that month
is peresented with flowers.
Mary O'Brien was the November birthday girl.

Each year we have an international night. Our chosen country this year was China.
Ning Ning Zhao gave a wonderful talk with a photo display
on her home town of Dalian in the Liaoning province of China.
We had a chinese display and Chinese music and fortune cookies.

Following a most enjoyable daytrip to An Grianan in the summer
we are looking forward to another one on 13th December.

Here we are learning the Cha Cha

Each month we also have an opportunity to socialise and chat with our friends and make new ones. ICA is a great way to get to know people in your area
and many, many lasting frienships have started at a guild meeting.

Our Christmas Dinner at the Belair Hotel is always very popular.
We enjoy a lovely meal and we provide our own entertainment.
We have our kriskindle and lots of fun and laughter.
This year's dinner is on Tuesday 6th December.

In January we celebrate Nollaig na mBan with a trip to the theatre.
This year we are going to the Gate theatre to see Little Women.
We also have trips to the cinema and a summer outing.
Wherever we go we have great craic.

In March we have an Irish night

Bionn amhrain agus seit againn. Bainimid taitneamh as an oiche.

Each Wednesday members interested in arts and crafts
meet in Maghermore from 10.30-12.30.
This is an opportunity to learn new crafts or skills or simply chat
while doing some craft you particularly enjoy.

Recently we enjoyed some card making with Susan
and we had a beading workshop in October.

Each Thursday some of our members go into Ashford School
to teach some crafts to the 6th classes.
Carmel Simmons is the organiser of this worthwhile project

We have a very active drama group who partake in many competitions and festivals. Rehearsals are good fun and again lasting friendships
have started in the drama group.

Drama is a great way to get to know other members. We have great fun at rehearsals.
So why not get involved on stage or back stage?

Various workshops and classes are organised on a wide range of topics
to cater for the diverse interests of our members.
We have had courses in Personal Development, Tai Chi, Computers
Occupational First Aid agus ranganna Gaeilge.
In October we had an introduction to pillates and a set dancing workshop.
